the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.

For many, when they hear Search Engine Optimization (SEO), most have never heard of it, or have a very rough idea of what it is. Our favorite is seeing their eyes glass over as we explain it to them.

So what is SEO, and SEM? Search Engine Optimization is one of the most important things you can do in a digital marketing strategy. It is built on great founding principles in development, and well thought out and defined content creation. It also has elements of a well-executed social media strategy.

You can also leverage the power of SEO for your videos so that you can rank higher in your videos, and get more views. For many, more views are the name of the game for them to be able to attract advertisers or to get monetized on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and other video sharing platforms.

But how does SEO differentiate from SEM? Search Engine Optimization is the art of working with all kinds of content, code, and your entire site as well as your linking strategy to be able to rank organically. Search Engine Marketing is paying for your visitors.

SEO is simply working with your content in ways that follow what Google tells us is a ranking factor. There are currently over 200 aspects of your site that Google looks at to determine where, and how they will rank your site. Speed, length of time site has been up, and how far into the future your domain name is registered for are just a few ways Google ranks your site.

Ranking organically is the best thing that you can do for your site. 90% of your users won’t go to the second page of SERP’s (Search Engine Results Page’s). They look at the links on the first page and pick from there. Only 10 percent go to the second page. That is a major blow to those that are trying to expand their business, and are not on the front page.

Search Engine Marketing is more focused on building your website traffic through paid avenues. This is a great option for newer sites, or for a new product release. Often times, companies have a hard time ranking because they have less than 6 months with a domain name. This is an issue that prevents them from getting higher rankings. But they really need to push to sell a new product. That is where Pay-Per-Click comes into play.
